About Bree

Bree Aguiar was born in October of 1994 to two very Portuguese parents in Fall River, Massachusetts (home of Lizzie Borden). She went to small, Catholic schools growing up, and her best friends were fictional characters. She graduated from Stonehill College in 2016 with a B.A. in Political Science, though she’s not really using that degree. She works full time as a VP, Senior Compliance Manager at a financial institution, though writing is her passion. She currently lives in Massachusetts with the worst roommates, her two cats Mochi and Kimchi. If you ever hear the sound of Taylor Swift playing in the distance, follow it and you will most definitely find her.

Her Work and Influences

Bree has been reading since the tender age of three; her mom forced her to learn because she was sick of reading the same Sesame Street picture book to her every night. Since then, she hasn’t been able to put books down. Her favorite books growing up were Harry Potter, Charlotte’s Web, Narnia, and the Gossip Girl books (which she read much too young to actually understand any of what was happening in the scandalous lives of those Upper East Siders).

Now, she writes both YA and New Adult Fantasy novels. Her favorite works and influences include:

  • Stephen King - most notably 11/22/63, The Shining, and ‘Salem’s Lot

  • Haruki Murakami - most notably Kafka on the Shore and The Wind-up Bird Chronicles

  • Sarah J. Maas (and yes, that includes the smutty stuff)

  • The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordon and Brandon Sanderson

  • The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien

  • Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

  • Literally anything resembling Russian literature because she’s very pretentious

That being said, she will read almost anything as long as the animals depicted in it aren’t in moral jeopardy (though sometimes she’ll read those and just cry about it after).
